Novem(ber) Trip Ideas
Are you looking to travel in November?
November is an amazing month to travel in, there’s less crowds, cheaper flights, and mild weather. Off-peak is, in my opinion, the best time to fully explore a destination. No more pushing through hoards of tourists or scavenging for reasonable lodging. Many destinations around the world offer pleasant weather in November from California to Tanzania. And being from the Northeast, we take (almost) every chance we can to escape the cold. Sunny and warm instead of snowy and cold? We’re in. No questions asked. However, some exceptions are made if the destination is enticing enough, looking at you Iceland. Even if you’re not from the Northeast, there’s plenty of reasons to travel in November!
Why Travel in the Fall?
Fewer Crowds – With less people traveling in the fall, you can connect with locals, leisurely stroll and enjoy the peace and quiet.
Affordability – Off-season travel offers a more pleasant experience and better price points. You’ll find more affordable flights and accommodation throughout November.
Better Weather – If you’re located in the Northeast (like us), this is a perfect time to escape the early winter and head somewhere warm.
Where to go in November?
Should you stay domestic or venture abroad? If you’re not a big fan of Thanksgiving, this is a great time to travel internationally, as a lot of Americans traveling will be doing so within the USA. Although, it’s really up to you as both offer amazing destinations in November. Let’s dive into them!
International Destinations (Outside the USA)
Tanzania
Tanzania is a fantastic destination for November because the weather is dry and warm. There were little bugs and little rain. It’s nearing the end of fall meaning weather is still mild and perfect for both Safari and the beach. Flights are begging to be booked and stays too, giving you an even better deal.
The Serengeti is hot during the day but does get cold at night so bring layers, especially for the crater. Do not go without a jacket or sweatshirt. Zanzibar is hot and sunny, making the beach or pool enjoyable. The relaxation is blissful after the adrenaline rush of Safari. We have the perfect 9-day travel guide here!
Costa Rica
November is an ideal time to travel to Costa Rica because the season is switching from wet to dry. If you’re looking to stay drier, you’ll most likely prefer traveling later in the month as it’s less rainy than the beginning. In November, daytime temperatures are still warm with less rain throughout the country. We suggest still packing a raincoat as short showers can be expected in the afternoons.
This time of year is considered low season, meaning again that this is great for budget travelers or those looking to save. You can enjoy the beaches and the highlands since the days are warm. Who doesn’t love a beach trip right before winter starts? There’s also less tourists and less crowds, offering a more relaxed experience.

New Zealand
If you can travel far, November is an ideal time to travel to New Zealand for the lupines! Late spring brings about cooler days and lots of sunshine in New Zealand. And you’ll love the cool days because the sun is hot here! A 70 degree day feels much hotter than it does other places because of the intense sun. There will be a little bit of rain, but it’s worth it.
November is the end of the shoulder season, meaning you can still benefit from lower crowds and prices. The US dollar will be in your favor making New Zealand a more affordable destination on the ground. Your biggest expense will be getting there, and if you can afford that, go. You’ll enjoy mild weather, with warm days and sunny skies. This is perfect for New Zealand because the sun there is scorching. The chilly mornings and evenings, combined with the scenic landscapes make for peak coziness.

Iceland
I know what you’re thinking… it’s cold. And yes, it is, but it’s not that cold. When I took a trip there in mid-late November, I was shocked at how warm it was. Plus, the cold was so worth the two Northern Lights shows we saw. November in Iceland is magical. It’s the beginning of the holiday season meaning lights, decor, and cheer. Pick a time where the weather is not calling for snow and go!
The days are shorter, but still offer enough daylight for seeing all the main sights and more. We luckily didn’t encounter snow or any dangerous conditions (other than a potential volcanic eruption). Iceland is notorious for being expensive, making November a great time to visit for cheaper. I’d recommend doing Southern Iceland first and hitting the golden circle and Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon. Surprisingly, Iceland was so vegan friendly, which is an added bonus!
USA Destinations
Hawaiʻi
November in Hawaiʻi? Sounds like the best way to defrost from the winter. Keep in mind November is the start of the rainy season, so aim to travel during the beginning of the month. This way you’ll also avoid traveling during Thanksgiving. Rainy season can sound concerning, but in my experience it’s always been okay. There might be rainy days or rainy afternoons, but this does not by any means ruin the trip. If anything, it adds to the experience and forces you to be creative with your plans, or outfits. Daytime temperatures are in the 70s-80s, which sounds amazing.
When visiting islands or places, especially those subject to over tourism, we cannot emphasize enough how important it is to choose ethical, sustainable stays. Please, be mindful when traveling and do not leave a trace. Traveling is such a privilege, and we don’t want it to come at the cost of ruining homes. Reduce water usage and waste in areas where there is limited supply.
Florida
If there’s one time to go to Florida, it’s November. There’s way less humidity, offering pleasantly warm days. The water is warm, because when is it not? And this is the beginning of dry season! As all the places on this list, November should offer better prices and less crowds. It’s a popular destination among other Americans, so we advise traveling before Thanksgiving for the best deals.
Florida in November means relaxation before the chaos of the holidays. It’s a great reprieve from the stressors of daily life as you rot in the sun either at the pool or beach. If you’re looking for extra warmth, head further south, but even northern Florida will offer warm days.
Santa Fe, New Mexico
Looking for a little more adventure or fall weather? Head on over to Santa Fe! November brings about cooler days ideal for strenuous activity like hiking. Bring layers and warm clothes, as nights will be chillier, especially if you’re in the mountains. We recommend for those who enjoy fall, as you can expect colder weather here than some other destinations on this list. Luckily, the chance of rain is low!
If you enjoy skiing or snowboarding, Santa Fe is also a great option for you in late November. Enjoy the slopes in peace and quiet. Another reason to visit in November is the festivals. The town hosts some small festivals throughout the month offering a more unique, cultural experience than other months.
Savannah, Georgia
Savannah is such a cute town, perfect for a weekend trip in November. The town itself is quite historic in addition to it’s beauty. Fun fact, this is also where Lauren took her first solo trip! As a female traveler, she felt safe and welcome. Lauren even met a nice family while waiting in line at Leopold’s ice cream - which of course has vegan options if she was there. She will not settle for italian ice. It’s also near a few beaches, if you want to combine beach and city. In November, you’ll enjoy mild weather and walks along the river.
